UCLA Veterans Day events to be held Nov. 9

UCLA will host a Veterans Day ceremony to honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces Thursday, Nov. 9. The event will include two distinguished guest speakers: Army veteran Sam Sachs, who served in World War II, and Marine Corps veteran and UCLA student Timothy Perkins, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Following the ceremony, there will be a resource fair that offers information about UCLA’s many services, programs and research that supports veterans.

The Veterans Resource Center’s annual Warrior Games, which provide an opportunity for people to take part in recreational activities and connect with student veterans, will also take place.

All activities are open to veterans and non-veterans.

Photographs and video will be allowed. Scott Waugh, UCLA executive vice chancellor and provost will give remarks. Army veteran Sam Sachs, who served in World War II, will speak. UCLA student Timothy Perkins, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan with the Marine Corps is scheduled to talk as well. A color guard will also be present.

BACKGROUND

UCLA partners with the Department of Veterans Affairs at the West L.A. VA Campus, with actions underway that will fulfill a 10-year, $16.5 million commitment for new programs and supportive services.
