Through its annual Distinguished Career Award, Excellence in Leadership Award and Rising Star Award, the UCLA Administrative Management Group shines a spotlight on staff who have been dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in their careers at the university.

Devoted to the professional development of managers on campus and those who aspire to become managers, the UCLA Administrative Management Group received many outstanding nominations for the excellence awards throughout the UCLA community.

The Distinguished Career Award — designed to recognize an individual who has had a significant and lasting impact on the surrounding community, exemplifies leadership, has invaluable institutional knowledge and has made broad contributions to the campus as a whole — will be presented to Renee Fortier, executive director of events and transportation, and posthumously to Jeff Averill, campus architect with UCLA Capital Programs.

Chief nursing officer at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Cathy Ward, will receive the Excellence in Leadership Award, which seeks to recognize an individual who demonstrates management excellence.

The Rising Star Award, which recognizes those who have established leadership roles in their positions and have sought training and development opportunities for career growth, will honor Alexis Oberlander, student affairs officer in the Department of Urban Planning in the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs.

All award nominees will be recognized at the management group’s reception on June 22 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Morgan Center, Press Room.

The management group’s mission is to provide opportunities for professional growth and development; create a forum for effective communication between academic, administrative and service managers and professionals at UCLA; and become a sounding board for implementing new processes, among other goals.
