The second annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Remembrance Day at UCLA will showcase King’s efforts to advance diversity, equity and inclusion and explore the role of athletes as activists.
This year’s event, honoring Dr. King's speech on April 27, 1965, at UCLA, will look at the issue of repeated blunt force trauma to the brain, promote concussion awareness and the work that Black Bruin athlete alumni are engaged in to mitigate this challenge as well as their efforts to facilitate better career, health and quality of life outcomes among youth engaged in sports.
The event will include a discussion moderated by Christine Simmons and featuring panelists Brendon Ayanbadejo, Eddie Comeaux and a Missouri student/athlete leader to be announced soon. There will also be a reception and two screenings of the film “Concussion.”
The panel will take place at Pauley Pavilion at 1 p.m. Please visit the UCLA Bunche Center for African American Studies at UCLA for updated information as it becomes available.
