On Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 7:30 p.m., the Hammer Museum and the UCLA Confucius Institute will present "Body of the Buddha: Art of the Dunhuang Temples." The conversation will be led by historian D. Neil Schmid and provide a behind-the-scenes look at the powerful monks, skilled artisans and religious pilgrims who transformed the Buddha into a specifically Chinese icon. Attendees are also encouraged to see the Cave Temples of Dunhuang exhibit, open now through Sept. 4 at the Getty Center.
