The Architect’s Newspaper has awarded Steven Christensen, a lecturer in architecture and urban design in the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture, its 2016 Young Architects Award. Given to one practitioner nationwide a year, the jury based its decision on evidence of innovation, creative use of new technology, sustainability, strength of presentation, and, most importantly, great design.

Though rooted in a critical understanding of architectural history, Steven Christensen Architecture, based in Santa Monica, California, strives to create work that connects with a broad audience both intellectually and viscerally. Interested in atmosphere, character, and forms with personality, the firm particularly enjoys exploring architecture’s ability to communicate cultural content.
