Professor Deborah Nadoolman Landis of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television (TFT) has been reelected to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Board of Governors for 2015-16. A costume designer and historian, Landis is the founding director and chair of TFT’s David C. Copley Center for Costume Design.

In May, Landis received the Award of Excellence in Professional Costume Design/Technology at the Costume Society of America's 41st Annual Symposium and Meeting in San Antonio, Texas.

Landis received an M.F.A. in costume design from UCLA and a Ph.D. in the history of design from the Royal College of Art, London. Her career includes costume design for numerous films, among them the horror/comedy “Burke & Hare” (2010), “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981) and the classic “Animal House” (1978). She also designed the costumes for the groundbreaking music video, “Michael Jackson’s Thriller” (1983). She is the author of many books, including “FilmCraft: Costume Design” (Ilex Press, 2012) and “Hollywood Sketchbook: A Century of Costume Illustration” (Harper Collins, 2012). In 2012, she wrote the catalogue for the landmark exhibition, “Hollywood Costume,” which she curated at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

From 2001-2007, Landis served as a two-term president of the Costume Designers Guild, Local 892, of which she has been a member for more than 35 years.
