Lauren McCarthy, assistant professor of design and media arts at UCLA, is participating in the Open Codes exhibition at the ZKM Center for Art and Media in Germany. The exhibition runs from Feb. 15 through Aug. 6.

McCarthy is featured in a group piece “Web Residencies.” The presentation is a cooperation between the Akademie Schloss Solitude and ZKM Center for Art and Media.

The exhibition will feature artworks and scientific works based on digital as well as on analog codes. The works visualize and explain the complex dynamics of codes, and the way in which they are increasingly shaping the way we live and perceive the world. The exhibition analyzes the ingress of codes into our lives, and the structures of knowledge they generate. “Web Residencies” provide insight into creative and conceptual practices in dealing with the current paradigms in art and society.
