Rebeca Méndez, professor of digital media arts in the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture, has been awarded the Lucas Artists Fellowship by the Montalvo Arts Center’s Sally and Don Lucas Artists Program.

Méndez’s research and practice investigates design and media art in public space, approaches to public identities and landscape and artistic projects based on field investigation methods. She is also the director of CounterForce Lab, a research and fieldwork studio dedicated to art, design and environment.

The fellowship was given to 33 artists working in fields of visual arts, architecture, urbanism and design who have the potential to become major voices in the next generation of creative thinkers. Selected artists are awarded three months in the Lucas Artists Residency, allowing them time to create, research and engage with other residents and colleagues to exchange ideas and develop collaborations.
