Dr. Philip Levin has been appointed chief medical officer of Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital. In this role, Levin will develop and lead clinical quality and patient safety initiatives, strengthen relationships with faculty and private practice physicians and improve the value and efficiency of clinical care delivery.

A clinical professor of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine, Levin earned his M.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed his residency in anesthesiology at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. He joined the medical school faculty in 2000. Levin became chief of anesthesia services in 2002, medical director of perioperative services in 2003, and vice-chief of staff in 2010. In 2014, he was named interim chief medical officer at Santa Monica-UCLA.
