Tatsuo Itoh, a professor of electrical engineering and the Northrop Grumman Chair in Microwave Electronics at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, has received an honorary doctorate from the Universit Autònoma de Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain.
The first honorary degree ever bestowed by the university's engineering school, the award recognizes Itoh’s groundbreaking research in microwaves, antennas, millimeter waves and numerical electromagnetics. His work has led to breakthroughs that were “unthinkable until a few years ago,” according to an announcement that also noted that Itoh has been "an inspiration and a collaborator" for researchers at the school.
Itoh was elected to the National Academy of Inventors in 2013 and the National Academy of Engineering in 2003.
