The UCLA Latin American Institute invites you to a presentation of Catherine Murphy’s “Maestra,” noon to 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 6, in UCLA's Royce Hall, room 314.

“Maestra” is a 33-minute documentary that explores the experience of nine women who, as young girls, taught in the Cuban Literacy Campaign of 1961. Through current-day interviews from their homes in Havana, archival film footage and still photos, the film documents the literacy movement and how it changed the nation as well as the lives of 250,000 volunteer teachers.

The film screening is free and open to the public.
