Fowler’s KidsMUSE camp explores iron forging in Africa

This one week camp takes its inspiration from the Fowler exhibition 'Striking Iron'

|

The Fowler Museum’s KidsMUSE summer camp invites children to explore Africa in the museum’s galleries in an immersive STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) summer experience. Campers will learn about iron forging across Africa through engaging hands-on activities inspired by the special exhibition “Striking Iron: The Art of African Blacksmiths.”

Campers will discover original artworks, create their own masterpieces in the studio, and experiment with thought-provoking engineering challenges. Campers will also go on a full-day field trip to Adam’s Forge in Glassell Park for a hands-on workshop led by a master blacksmith, who will help campers mold (no heated materials with this method) their own copper pendant with the assistance of Fowler staff.

The cost is $230 per session for Fowler members, $275 for non-members. Download a registration form here. Deadline to register June 25. For more information, call 310-206-5663 or email fowlereducation@arts.ucla.edu.
