Fox Broadcasting Company recently approved a pilot order for Dr. Neal Baer’s new medical drama, “The Beast.” Baer, adjunct professor in the UCLA Department of Community Health Sciences and co-director of the Global Media Center for Social Impact at UCLA, is a television writer and producer as well as pediatrician.

Focusing on three challenging medical cases each week, “The Beast” is a portrayal of clinical procedures in which two patients survive and one dies. Baer’s show characterizes doctors as continuously grappling with the fear of death in order to push the boundaries of medical and clinical possibility, according to Variety.

Baer’s television writing, production and showrunner credits include the medical drama, “ER,” as well as the legal crime drama, “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,” both of which are Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning television programs.

Marking a reunion for the “Law and Order” veterans, Baer and Dawn DeNoon co-wrote the pilot for Fox's new medical drama and will serve as executive producers along with Jessica Shulman. Baer’s production company, Baer Bones, will be producing “The Beast” along with 20th Century Fox Television.
