A book written by UCLA gender studies professor Sarah Haley has been recognized by the American Historical Association and the American Studies Association.
The book, titled “No Mercy Here: Gender, Punishment and the Making of Jim Crow Modernity,” was awarded the 2017 Joan Kelly Memorial Prize by the American Historical Association and the 2017 Lora Romero First Book Publication Prize by the American Studies Association.
The book was previously recognized by the Southern Association of Women Historians, the National Women’s studies Association and the Association of Black Women Historians.
