Health care strategy professor named faculty member of the year by national organization

Leah Vriesman

Leah Vriesman, associate adjunct professor of health policy and management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, has been named the 2018 Faculty Member of the Year by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. Vriesman is the first recipient of the award, which recognizes a faculty member for accomplishments in academic leadership, including meeting participation and network engagement.

At UCLA, Vriesman is director of the executive education programs in health policy management, offering both a rigorous, fully-accredited executive-format MPH in health policy and management and also continuing education professional workshops covering topics such as lean process improvement and also data analytics.

Vriesman has conducted research on personal health records in Germany as a senior Fulbright Scholar (2010–2011), and frequently gives keynote lectures on the transformation of health care delivery to healthcare professionals in East Africa, Asia and Europe. In addition, as co-principal investigator on a National Center for Healthcare Leadership study, she investigated the relationship between graduate health management curriculums and student outcomes, to ensure the development of competent graduates entering the field.

She currently teaches courses on strategic management of health service organizations and international comparative health systems.
