David Lefkowitz, professor of composition and theory in the UCLA Herb Albert School of Music, will have his compositions performed at the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble’s upcoming International Composers Academy. Lefkowitz is one of a small group of composers invited to Tchaikovsky City, Russia to participate in this event, which runs from Aug. 30 through Sept. 12.

The academy is a creative laboratory for young composers and musicians from all over the world. Visiting professors, such as Lefkowitz, are well-known composers who hold individual sessions and group lectures.

As a composer, Lefkowitz has won international acclaim, having works performed in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Ukraine, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Israel and Egypt. He has also won national and international competitions, including the Fukui Harp Music Awards Competition and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Grants to Young Composers Competition.
