Islamic scholar’s book honored in Iran

Ismail Poonawala

A book co-authored by Ismail Poonawala, professor emeritus in the department of near eastern languages and cultures at UCLA, has been selected for an award at the 25th World Award for Book of the Year in Iran.

The book, titled “Sciences of the Soul and Intellect, Part III; An Arabic Critical Edition and English Translation of Epistles 39-41” and co-authored by Carmela Baffioni, is part of the series of books, Epistles of the Brethren of Purity. The series consists of translations and explanations of chapters in Epistles by numerous Islamic scholars.

Poonawala has taught at UCLA since 1974 and is a world-renowned Islamic scholar.
