The UCLA Film and Television Archive hosts a screening of “The African Queen” and “Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison” as part of the program, “John Huston: A Retrospective.” The program will run from June 17 through August 27 and will feature different films directed by John Huston.
“The African Queen” stars Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. The film details the story of a callous riverboat captain who is persuaded by a strait-laced missionary to use his boat to attack an enemy warship during World War I.
“Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison” tells the story of a Marine and a nun who are stranded on a Japanese-occupied island in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. They find comfort in one another as the two wait out the war.
"The African Queen" and “Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison” will screen Saturday, June 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Billy Wilder Theater at the Hammer Museum.
