The UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center in collaboration with the UCLA Music Library and UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive are presenting a symposium in celebration of the Strachwitz Frontera Collection at UCLA. The collection contains more than 215,000 songs celebrating North America’s Spanish-language musical heritage.

The symposium will include two roundtable discussions featuring writers, archivists and educators discussing the value of the collection to UCLA and broader communities. Representatives from the Arhoolie Foundation will discuss the collection and share recordings.

The listening panel, free and open to all, will run from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5. It will be hosted in rooms 1630 and 1102 in the Schoenberg Music Building. Registration through Eventbrite is encouraged.

The event was made possible through support from the Office of Interdisciplinary and Cross Cultural Affairs and the UCLA Center for Latino Arts.
