The UCLA LatinJazz Band, the Contemporary Jazz Ensemble and the UCLA Jazz Orchestra will perform well- known jazz standards, as well as compositions written by faculty directors and students. Hosted by the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, the free show will be held June 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Schoenberg Hall. Parking for Schoenberg Hall is in Structure 2.
Paul De Castro, a highly regarded pianist and instructor of jazz and Afro-Cuban styles who recently released a CD titled “Bueno Pá Gozar: Paul De Castro y su Orquesta Dengue”, directs the LatinJazz Big Band. Hitomi Oba, co-founder of the composer/performer new music collective L.A. Signal Lab, directs the Contemporary Jazz Ensemble. Charley Harrison, whose recently released album “Keeping My Composure” held a spot on the JazzWeek charts for 13 weeks, directs the UCLA Jazz Orchestra.
