March 10–11: Conference commemorating 50th anniversary of the East L.A. walkouts

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the East L.A. walkouts, the Chicano Studies Research Center and the Fowler Museum at UCLA are collaborating on two days of events that will feature speakers and screenings.

On Saturday, March 10 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., walkout participants and scholars will speak at the Fowler Museum to address the historic event.

Screenings of the 1996 documentary, “Taking Back the Schools” and the 2006 HBO film “Walkout!” will take place on Sunday, March 11 starting at noon with introductions from producers Susan Racho and Moctesuma Esparza, respectively. A Q&A session will follow the screenings.

The events are free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required for each day. Saturday is full, but 20 minutes after the program begins, walk-ins will be accommodated according to seat availability. For more information, visit the event page
