With an all-female ensemble, choreographers Darrian O’Reilly and Sarah Jacobs combine physical humor and idiosyncratic theatricality to animate the Fowler courtyard from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17. Intimate exchanges and unexpected imagery activate the architecture, revealing the spaces inbetween.
Currently an M.F.A. candidate in UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance, O’Reilly links experimental and commercial sensibilities by drawing on the innovative and intellectual principles of postmodern dance, while preserving the accessibility of popular and commercial dance. O’Reily’s work melds character, props, narrative, voice and live music in unpredictable alchemy.
O’Reilly also studies Iyengar Yoga and focuses on yoga for dancers and yoga therapy, teaching private sessions geared toward chronic pain rehabilitation. She often teaches beginning yoga in UCLA's Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance.
Jacobs is a dance-theater choreographer and improviser currently based in Los Angeles. As an M.F.A. candidate in UCLA’s Department of World Arts & Cultures/Dance, her interests include movement, development, health and learning across the life span. Sarah works in UCLA’s Visual and Performing Arts Education minor, assisting undergraduates to develop and implement residencies in LA public schools.
