How can cities become part of the solution to climate change? The Smart and Sustainable Cities Conference at UCLA on May 19 seeks to answer that question by bringing experts from around the world, especially the Mediterranean environments of Israel and Southern California, to exchange ideas about the most innovative models for urban sustainability.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will deliver the keynote address, and panels of experts will discuss energy, water, transportation, the built environment, technology and the sharing economy. UCLA chemical engineering professor Yoram Cohen, head of the UCLA Water Technology Research Center in the school of engineering, helped organize the conference.
The conference is co-sponsored by UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, the Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, the California Center for Sustainable Communities, the Luskin School of Public Affairs, the Ziman Center for Real Estate and the Water Technology Research Center.
