Michael Levine has been named UCLA’s interim executive vice chancellor and provost, effective July 1 through Aug. 31.

As executive vice chancellor and provost, Levine will provide leadership on campus-wide policy, planning, initiatives and operations. He will work closely with Chancellor Gene Block in implementing academic and administrative policies and serve as liaison to the UCLA Academic Senate and as acting chancellor during Block’s absence.

A UCLA faculty member since 1976, Levine is a distinguished professor in the department of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and was appointed to his current role as vice chancellor for academic personnel in May 2018, after serving in that role on an interim basis since July 2016.

Levine, who is vice chancellor for academic personnel at UCLA, will serve for two months following the departure of Scott Waugh, who is returning to the faculty to pursue his research and scholarship in history full time.

Emily A. Carter will begin her service as UCLA’s executive vice chancellor and provost in September.
