Hung Ton-That, a two-time UCLA alumnus and leader in the study of molecular and cellular mechanisms of infectious diseases, has joined the faculty of the UCLA School of Dentistry as professor of oral biology.
Ton-That is a well-established, leading scientist in the field of microbial pathogenesis. He comes to UCLA from University of Texas McGovern Medical School where he was recognized in 2013 with the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award. At McGovern, he taught courses for graduate and medical students and directed a laboratory-based course in fluorescence and electron microscopy.
Ton-That currently has three R01 grants and is a co-investigator on two more R01 grants. His most recent National Institutes for Health grant is going into its third cycle. His peer-reviewed publication list is also impressive with nearly all of his papers published in very rigorous journals in his field.
Ton-That received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry and his doctorate in microbiology, both from UCLA.
