Hot and dry summers have caused poor air quality and longer fire seasons in Los Angeles. By 2050, Los Angeles will only become hotter. On Wednesday, Nov. 14, the Hammer Museum at UCLA is hosting a free discussion with city officials and researchers about designing healthier communities and meeting sustainability goals.
The event, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will include Lauren Faber O’Conner, chief sustainability officer for the city of Los Angeles, Jisung Park, assistant professor of public policy at UCLA and George Ban-Weiss, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at USC. Mark Gold, associate vice chancellor of the environment and sustainability at UCLA, will moderate the discussion.
The discussion is the latest in the UCLA Sustainable LA Grand Challenge’s series, “Future L.A.: Engineering a Sustainable Supercity,” which is presented in partnership with the Hammer Museum. The series brings together community voices, experts and scholars in conversations on regional sustainability efforts and the critical role we all play in realizing this future.
Free tickets are available at the museum’s box office one hour before the program and are given on a first come, first served basis. Members will receive priority ticketing until 15 minutes before the event starts.
