Andrea Moudarres, assistant professor of Italian at UCLA, has received the Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Publication Award for a manuscript in Italian literary studies from the Modern Language Association.

The prize is awarded each year to an author of a manuscript dealing with any aspect of the languages and literatures of Italy, including Medieval Latin comparative studies or intellectual history. Moudarres received the award for his manuscript “The Enemy in Italian Renaissance Epic: Images of Hostility from Dante to Tasso,” which examines the idea of hostility and how it came from ideas about politics and religion.

Moudarres’ interests focus on Dante, humanism, Machiavelli and political philosophy and the presence of classical literature in medieval and early modern culture.
