Kelly Lytle-Hernández, professor of history at UCLA, is being awarded the 2018 Freedom Now Award from the Los Angeles Community Action Network for her work on the Million Dollar Hoods project.

Million Dollar Hoods maps how much the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles Police Department spent on incarceration between 2010 and 2015. Lytle-Hernández’s work has shown that there are large discrepancies in neighborhoods in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Community Action Network helps people living in poverty create and discover opportunities.

Lytle-Hernández will be honored at the eighth annual Freedom Now Awards and Fundraiser evening on June 16.
