Zrinka Stahuljak, professor of comparative literature in the UCLA College, has been named director of the UCLA Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.

The center promotes interdisciplinary and cross-cultural studies to better understand cultural, social, religious and political issues that are rooted in the past yet continue to resonate today. Stahuljak, who was the center’s associate director from 2008-2012, will serve as director for three years, beginning July 1.

Stahuljak, who is also a professor of French and Francophone studies at UCLA, focuses her research on continental French, Anglo-French and Mediterranean literature, history and culture. She is the recipient of a Boston University teaching excellence award and is a fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.
