Burt Totaro, professor of mathematics at UCLA, has been named 2019 fellow of the American Mathematical Society.

The society is dedicated to advancing mathematical research and connecting the global mathematical community through publications, professional services and awareness programs. Fellowships are awarded to members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, advancement and utilization of mathematics. Totaro was recognized for his contributions to algebraic geometry, lie theory and cohomology and for service to the profession.

Totaro’s research focuses on algebraic geometry and algebraic topology and has taught in the department of mathematics since 2012.
