Jorge Torres, associate professor of biochemistry in the UCLA College, received the Student Development Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award from the UCLA Academic Senate.
This award honors a faculty member who has excelled in teaching and mentoring a diverse student body. Torres has served as a mentor for several diversity outreach programs at UCLA including the Amgen Scholars Program, the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Initiative and the Minority Access to Research Careers program.
Torres’ research focuses on identifying and characterizing novel proteins that are required for proper mitotic spindle assembly. He is the recipient of the 2014 American Cancer Society Research Scholar Award and the 2013 UCLA Faculty Career Development Award.
