Zrinka Stahuljak, professor of French and Francophone studies in the UCLA College, was selected as the 2018–2019 International Visiting Fellow for the University of Warwick’s Institute of Advanced Study program.
The goal of the program is to enrich the academic environment through interdisciplinary engagement and research activities. Focusing on the theme of translation in the Middle Ages and beyond, Stahuljak’s visit will include a keynote lecture and a series of workshops. Specifically, she will discuss translation in situations of conflict and the lived experiences of fixers (military and journalistic interpreters) in medieval and contemporary contexts.
Stahuljak’s research interests include continental French, Anglo-French and Mediterranean literature, history and culture. A former wartime interpreter on the front lines in Yugoslavia, Stahuljak has written about a range of subjects including cultural differences and power structures.
