Martin Monti, associate professor of psychology at UCLA, received the International Guiseppe Sciacca award for medical research from the Giuseppe Sciacca Foundation.

The foundation honors excellence in art, culture, science and technology. Monti was recognized for his research on cognition in people who have disorders in consciousness and for his work leading a study on brain stimulation using ultrasounds to recover consciousness in people with severe brain injuries.

Monti’s research focuses on consciousness and cognition, specifically in comas and minimally conscious states. He has been teaching at UCLA since 2011.
