Dr. Rinaldo Canalis, distinguished professor emeritus of head and neck surgery in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, received the Carole E. Goldberg Emeriti Service Award from the UCLA Emeriti Association.
The award recognizes emeriti faculty for exemplary service to the university and their department. Canalis, who retired in 2010, was honored for his contributions to two departments and for serving as an example of intellectual and professional achievement.
In 2015, Canalis collaborated with the center for medieval and renaissance studies and co-organized an international conference inspired by the work of the 16th century anatomist, Andreas Vesalius. In 2018, Canalis also co-organized a conference on the representation of disease in art and literature in the medieval and early modern eras.
The award includes a prize of $1,000 and will be presented at the UCLA Emeriti Association dinner on May 8.
