The end of summer usually marks the end of outdoor concerts, but not in sunny Los Angeles. Conceived as an exhibition in the form of a concert, Hammer Museum introduces autumn with back-to-back live performances by local, national and international sound artists, music collectives, art bands and visual artists whose practices extend to the production of sound.
The two-day concert, “All the instruments agree,” will run from 12 noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27. The action will alternate between two outdoor stages in the Hammer courtyard. Attendees can purchase food at cash bars that will be available on-site throughout the day. Grab-and-go food options by Ammo will be offered from 12–5 p.m., and food trucks will be available from 5 p.m. to10 p.m.
“All the instruments agree” will feature music that varies across a range of influences, genres and styles. Participating artists include industrial music pioneer Genesis Breyer P-Orridge; Cairo-based artist Hassan Khan, whose live-mixed multi-track work “Taraban” will premiere in the U.S.; and dynamic duo Kim Gordon and Alex Knost as Glitterbust.
Although music is inherently at odds with the conventions of exhibition and display, it remains essential to the production and social sphere of contemporary art. The concert seeks to highlight the critical role of musical and sonic performance.
For those who cannot make the concert, the performances will be streamed live online. For more information about the event and program details, visit the Hammer Museum.
