Wesley Thorne has joined UCLA as director of the UCLA Career Center, one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive centers of its kind.
Thorne comes to UCLA from Carnegie Mellon University, where he was the associate director for employer relations for the Career Center since 2010. His duties included responsibility for all on-campus recruiting and career fairs. His office supported the career service needs of nearly 85 percent of the student body and was responsible for generating departmental revenues through partner and other employer programs. Thorne received the 2014 NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) /Chevron Award for Carnegie Mellon's Campus Engagement Day, an innovative program that provides employers opportunities to exchange ideas and build partnerships with faculty and student organizations from various academic departments.
Previously,Thorne was the assistant director for business and employer relations at Northwestern University Career Services from 2003-2010. He served as the assistant director of the Career Resource Center and pre-law advisor at Wesleyan University from 2000-2003.
At the UCLA Career Center, he oversees 39 full-time and 50 part-time employees responsible for career counseling services, employer and campus relations and development, undergraduate and graduate student relations and development and the publication of the First Destination Survey.
Thorne holds a B.A. from Otterbein University and a masters degree in higher education and student affairs from Kent State University.
