Jean-François Blanchette, associate professor of information studies in UCLA's Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, has been awarded the 2013-14 Sudikoff Fellowship by the Sudikoff Family Institute for Education & New Media. The award was established in GSE&IS in 2002 by Jeffrey and Joyce Sudikoff to provide support for the public engagement efforts of faculty. Blanchette joins an esteemed group of education and information studies scholars who have contributed in significant ways to the public forum.
With issues related to education, information studies and new media as some of the most critical facing our society in the 21st century, Blanchette’s work expands public understanding of the dynamics and evolution of computing infrastructure and its impact on everyday life. The Sudikoff Fellowship will support his proposal for a series of op-eds and essays on these topics for the general public. Blanchette is the author of "Burdens of Proof: Cryptographic Culture and Evidence Law in the Age of Electronic Documents" (MIT Press, 2012) and the forthcoming "Running on Bare Metal: For a Material Theory of Computation," under contract with the University of Chicago Press and scheduled for publication in 2014.
