The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UCLA has been gifted $25,000 to further its efforts in the communities of Westwood, Sherman Oaks and Hollywood. The grant to the institute, which operates through UCLA Extension, comes from the Cannon Family Foundaton and will support the institute's mission to provide continuing education and intellectual stimulation to those over 50 in the community.

"UCLA Extension is honored to receive this generous gift from the Cannon Family Foundation and we look forward to continued support for this program from others," said Lynda Wilson, director of humanities and sciences at UCLA Extension. The grant is the largest received since the institute's founding and endowment by the Bernard Osher Foundation in 2009.

The institute offers a wide variety of classes and discussions on topics such as renewable energy, history of the American financial crisis, women poets of Los Angeles, basics of digital photography, science in pop culture and the psychological challenges of aging.

Instructors include: Robert Cannon, a leader in the Cannon Family Foundation; UCLA faculty; and professionals from the Los Angeles area in arts, entertainment, health and humanities.

"I have a great appreciation for the work that the staff at UCLA Extension does to make sure the program is top-notch," Cannon said. "The Osher program enriches all those who are fortunate to experience its many diverse and intellectually stimulating programs.”
