James Lawson Jr., Dolores Huerta and Kent Wong
Lawson, a renowned civil rights activist who worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King, co-taught a graduate seminar on nonviolence and social movements with Kent Wong, director of the UCLA Labor Center. They brought in such luminaries in the social justice movement as Dolores Huerta, labor leader and civil rights activist who co-founded the National Farmworkers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers of America. Huerta has received numerous awards for her work, including the UCLA Medal, the university's highest honor.
