New Drug May Help Combat Alzheimer’s
Research by Dr. Edward Tobinick, assistant clinical professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, on a new drug that may help reverse some of the early symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease was featured Thursday by FOX News, BBC News, Bloomberg, the Times Online (U.K.), the Daily Telegraph (U.K.) and Asian News International and Wednesday by United Press International. Tobinick was quoted in the Bloomberg article.
Stars Giving Birth to Planets a Second Time
Findings by UCLA researchers that two older stars appear going through a second wave of planet formation hundreds of millions — or even billions — of years after the first were reported today by Cosmos magazine online and Thursday by BBC News. UCLA astronomy graduate student Carl Melis was quoted in both stories; Benjamin Zuckerman, UCLA professor of physics and astronomy and co-author of the research, was quoted in Cosmos.
New Autism Gene Identified
A UCLA study that identified a gene that may be responsible for delayed speech in children with autism was highlighted today by the Daily Telegraph (U.K.), the Daily Mail (U.K.), and the Scotsman (U.K.) and Thursday by WedMD. Lead author Dr. Daniel Geschwind, professor of neurology and psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, was quoted in the Daily Telegraph and the Scotsman, and first author Maricela Alarcon, UCLA assistant professor of neurology, was cited in the WebMD article.
Fish Oil May Fight Alzheimer’s
The Louisville Courier-Journal reports today on a recent study by Greg Cole, professor-in-residence of medicine and neurology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and associate director of the UCLA Alzheimer Disease Center, that found that the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil may help fight and even prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
Dukakis, former presidential candidate and a visiting professor of public policy at the UCLA School of Public Affairs, was quoted Thursday in a Massachusetts Patriot Ledger article about former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.
Korobkin, UCLA professor of law, is quoted today in a Los Angeles Times article about recent stem cell research demonstrating that human embryonic stem cells can be made without destroying embryos.
McGuire, UCLA associate clinical professor of plastic surgery, is quoted today in a Los Angeles Times article about the death of rapper Kanye West’s mother.
