UCLA faculty experts advisory: Prostate cancer research, treatment
Actor Tommy Chong has recently announced he is treating his prostate cancer with hemp oil and cannabis. For media following this story or considering a story on National Men's Health Week (June 11–17), the latest information on prostate cancer research and treatment is available through experts at the Prostate Cancer Program at UCLA.
UCLA's Prostate Cancer Program has been a center of excellence, as designated by the National Cancer Institute, since in 2002 and is one of only nine in the country. The state of California has acknowledged UCLA's leadership in the fight against prostate cancer by helping the UCLA Department of Urology with funding for IMPACT, which has established a network of providers who deliver free prostate cancer treatment to low-income, uninsured or underinsured men throughout the state.
The Prostate Cancer Program's experts include:
Dr. Christopher Saigal, an associate professor of urology with a clinical practice at UCLA's Westwood campus, has had a long-standing clinical interest in urologic cancers and the surgical treatment of prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia. His research focuses on shared decision-making and quality of care for urologic conditions, especially prostate cancer.

Dr. Leonard S. Marks, a professor of urology, directs the UCLA Active Surveillance Program, which follows men with slow-growing prostate cancers that may not ever require treatment. His current research interests also involve prostate markers, imaging and minimally invasive treatments.
