UCLA faculty experts advisory: Celebrated Mexican author Carlos Fuentes dies

Acclaimed Mexican novelist and essayist Carlos Fuentes, one of the best-known writers in the Spanish-speaking world, has died in Mexico City at age 83. UCLA has experts.
Maarten van Delden, professor of Spanish and chair of UCLA's Department of Spanish and Portuguese, is a world-class authority of Carlos Fuentes and the author of "Carlos Fuentes, Mexico, and Modernity" (1998).

Veronica Cortinez, UCLA professor of Spanish, is an expert on contemporary Latin American literature who wrote her dissertation under Carlos Fuentes at Harvard in the 1980s.
