Clues to Cause of Postpartum Depression
HealthDay News reports today on a study by Istvan Mody, UCLA professor of neurology, and Jamie Maguire, a UCLA assistant researcher in neurology, that pinpointed the molecular processes underlying postpartum depression-like behaviors in mice. Mody and Maguire were quoted.
Building Earthquake-Safe Structures

Bear Attack Victim Released From UCLA
The Associated Press reported Monday on woman who was treated at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center after being mauled by a bear last week. Dr. Kimberly Lee, a UCLA surgeon who operated on the woman, was quoted.
Women’s Voices Change During Ovulation
Martie Haselton and Greg Bryant, UCLA associate professors of communication studies, were interviewed Monday on the BBC program “Radio 4 Science” about their research demonstrating that women’s voices become more high-pitched during ovulation.
Cell Phone Use and Cancer Risk
Reuters reported Tuesday on a joint study by UCLA and Denmark’s University of Aarhus that found that children of women who used cell phones while pregnant were more likely to develop behavioral problems. Study co-author Leeka Kheifets, professor-in-residence of epidemiology at the UCLA School of Public Health, was quoted.
