High Court Upholds Individual Mandate
Gerald Kominski, director of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research and a professor at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, was interviewed Thursday on KABC-Channel 7 about the Supreme Court's ruling on the Affordable Care Act.
 
Health Care Reform and California
Thursday stories by the Los Angeles Daily News and KPCC-89.3 FM on how the Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act will affect California cited a study by UCLA’s Center for Health Policy Research (CHPR) and UC Berkeley showing that nearly 4 million Californians are likely to obtain new or improved coverage under the law. A KNBC-Channel 4 story on the ruling referenced a 2010 CHPR study showing that approximately 8.2 million California residents are currently uninsured.
 
New Discovery May Help Muscle Disorders
An Examiner blog reported Thursday on research by UCLA assistant professor of neurology Carmen Bertoni, UCLA postgraduate fellow Refik Kayali and Dr. Richard Gatti, UCLA professor of pathology and laboratory medicine and professor of human genetics, that identified a compound that could help counteract the mutations that cause Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other genetic muscle disorders.
