An Associated Press article published today about gay rights groups urging President Obama to issue an executive order outlawing workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity cited research by the UCLA School of Law’s Williams Institute estimating that 16.5 million employees of federal contractors are not protected against such discrimination. 

Asian News International reported Thursday on a study led by Dr. Sherin Devaskar, professor of pediatrics and executive chair of the pediatrics department at Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA, showing that in low–birth-weight babies who become obese, the brain has higher levels of appetite-increasing peptides. Devaskar was quoted.

 

Roger Daltrey was interviewed Thursday on Jimmy Kimmel Live about the Daltrey/Townshend Teen & Young Adult Cancer Program at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, the first such program launched in the U.S. by Daltrey and Pete Townshend of the Who.

 

Money News on Thursday highlighted recent data from the Ceridian–UCLA Pulse of Commerce Index, which tracks fuel purchases at interstate truck stops as a means of predicting economic changes in the United States.

 

The Associated Press reported Thursday on research by Dr. Harry Vinters, chief of the neuropathology division at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and a Russian historian re-examining the cause of Vladimir Lenin's death. Vinters was quoted.

 

Dr. Neil Martin, the W. Eugene Stern Professor of Neurosurgery and chair of the UCLA Department of Neurosurgery, was interviewed Thursday on KCBS-Channel 2, KNBC-Channel 4, KABC-Channel 7 and Associated Press TV about the death of former football player Junior Seau and the degenerative brain disease known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which has afflicted many former athletes in high-contact sports.  

 

 

 

Habibi, a lecturer in real estate at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, was quoted Thursday in a New York Times article about the market for high-end condominiums in Los Angeles.

 

Hahn, professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and chief of rheumatology at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, was quoted Thursday in a HealthDay News article about new guidelines for the screening and management of lupus.  

Hovda, professor of neurosurgery and director of the UCLA Brain Injury Research Center, was  quoted today in a Los Angeles Times article about former football player Junior Seau’s brain being donated for research.

 

Kominski, director of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research and a professor at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, is quoted today in a Los Angeles Times article about ways pharmacies can help lower drug costs for customers.

 

Pizer, legal director for the UCLA School of Law's Williams Institute, is quoted today in a Washington Post article about the Obama administration's reaction to a federal court ruling allowing health benefits for the same-sex spouse of a federal employee.

 

Volokh, the Gary T. Schwartz Professor of Law at the UCLA School of Law, is quoted today in an Associated Press article about a federal judge ruling that clicking the “like” button on Facebook is not constitutionally protected speech.
