California Assembly candidates to meet in UCLA-sponsored forum May 14

Two Democrats and a Republican who are competing to represent California's 57th Assembly District have been invited to meet in a candidates' forum on Monday, May 14, at 7 p.m. at Whittier City Hall council chambers (13230 Penn St., Whittier, Calif. 90602).
 
The forum is being sponsored by UCLA Government and Community Relations, in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Whittier and Rio Hondo College. Invited candidates are Democrats Rudy Bermudez, a retired peace officer and former member of the Assembly from the 56th District, and Ian Calderon, a legislative field deputy, and Republican Noel Jaimes, a business owner. The candidates will have two minutes each for opening statements before taking questions from panelists and the audience.
 
The 57th Assembly District includes Avocado Heights, La Habra Heights, La Mirada, La Puente, Los Nietos, portions of Norwalk, Santa Fe Springs, South El Monte, West Whittier, South Whittier and the city of Whittier.
