UCLA campus police arrest robbery suspects in North Village area

UCLA police have arrested three people believed to be responsible for a string of robberies and attempted robberies in the North Village area of Westwood adjacent to campus.

Frederick Christmas, 18, and Daniel Lucie, 20, both of Los Angeles, were taken into custody while committing a robbery in the 600 block of Landfair Avenue, a residential area west of campus, at about 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 7, police said. Alyssa Barrows, 19, of Los Angeles, was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

Police said the suspects were in possession of stolen property and a replica handgun and that they matched descriptions given by victims of recent robberies and attempted robberies. Detectives said they believe the suspects are responsible for 13 robberies and attempted robberies reported to UCLA and Los Angeles police since Oct. 1.

"These arrests resulted from our detectives developing a surveillance plan after analyzing evidence and interviewing victims of recent robberies," UCLA Police Chief Karl Ross said. "I commend and congratulate detectives for their excellent work and quickly taking off the streets these suspects who posed a threat to the community."

The suspects were booked on suspicion of several counts of robbery and transported to Los Angeles County jail. The case is being referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
