Chancellor Block's statement on nomination of Janet Napolitano as UC president

UCLA Chancellor Gene Block today issued the following statement on the nomination of Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to serve as the 20th president of the University of California:
The nomination of Janet Napolitano as president of UC is an exciting and impressive choice. Her vast and varied experience as governor of Arizona and a key leader in President Obama's administration uniquely position her to provide the leadership, innovation, determination and understanding needed to continue the ascent of the greatest public university system in the world.
I have no doubt that, if confirmed by the Regents next week, she will only build upon the tremendous achievements of President Yudof, who successfully steered UC through one of the most difficult fiscal periods in our system's history without compromising academic quality or affordability for our students.
I eagerly look forward to working with President-nominee Napolitano. Her nomination is truly inspirational — a reminder of the top-quality leadership that our students and our state deserve.
