Chancellor Block's statement on stabbing incident in Young Hall

UCLA Chancellor Gene Block issued this statement on the Oct. 8 stabbing of a student in Young Hall:

To the Campus Community:

We are all shocked by the attack that occurred in one of our chemistry teaching labs today.  I know you join me in wishing for the speedy recovery of the young woman who was injured; our thoughts are with her and her family.

The incident involving our two students is under investigation by both UCLA and Los Angeles police departments.  Through the BruinAlert system, the UCLA Newsroom and Twitter feeds, we were able to quickly provide available information to the campus community.  We will continue to keep you informed as additional information becomes available.

We are committed to ensuring the safest campus environment possible.  For information on campus safety programs, call the UCLA Police Department at (310) 825-1491 or visit http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/police.  For counseling services, call Counseling and Psychological Services at (310) 825-0768 or visit http://www.counseling.ucla.edu/.
