While majoring in sociology and working on campus for the athletics department, she realized she could make sports her career.  Since graduating in 1994, she has earned a masters degree in sports business and worked for the athletics departments at three universities, including UCLA.  She worked in transportation at the Atlanta Olympics and for NBC for the Sidney Olympics. It was a personal and professional goal of hers to make it to Beijing, for which she prepared by taking Mandarin classes for two years. She works for a company there providing services to international media broadcasting from the Olympic Games.

I am a self-professed Olympic junkie

I remember watching Dorothy Hamill win her gold medal and I got a Dorothy Hamill haircut like everyone else. In 1984, I was glued to the TV during summer vacation and watched the Olympics every day.   When I was at UCLA I interned in the ...

Tiananmen Square a la Rose Parade

Free tickets to weightlifting

On Monday night my boss announced he had 18 tickets to weightlifting for that night. When else would I ever see weightlifting? If I go see weightlifting, I might as well see the BEST in the WORLD. I can't pass up a FREE ticket to an Olympic event....

Eating fried sea dog in Wang Fu Jing

On Saturday I took Shira and Danny to check Wang Fu Jing. It's the touristy shopping area very close to Tiananmen Square. It’s a pedestrian shopping area. Put into LA terms for you, it’s like Third Street Promenade but bigger and busier....

Farewell from Beijing

I thought I’d dedicate my last blog entry to Bruins in Beijing to actually be about Bruins IN Beijing.   In mid June the Alumni Association held a reception to welcome Chancellor Block to Beijing. I was stoked to have UCLA come to me. U...
